What is ELSA?

ELSA (The European Law Students' Association) is the largest international law students' and young lawyers' association. ELSA is defined as being an independent, non-political, non-profit organization run by and for students, based on voluntariate. It is comprised of students and recent graduates who are interested in academic and personal excellence. ELSA offers law students a perfect platform to develop their existing skills, acquire new skills and meet fellow students and legal professionals throughout Europe.

Where is it operating?

ELSA operates through its active Local Groups in more than 200 universities from 40 ELSA member countries, with more than 25.000 members, students and young lawyers.

What is ELSA Romania?

ELSA Romania is the only law students’ and young lawyers’ association operating nationally in Romania. ELSA Romania was constituted on the 6th of December 1990 and gained juridical personality through the Civil decision no 419/19.06.1991, issued by the Courthouse of Sector 5 Bucharest. ELSA Romania has been an ELSA International member since March 1991.

What is ELSA Romania not?

ELSA Romania is not a students’ syndicate, does not intend to form interest groups in order to inoculate partisan points of view. In the same time, ELSA does not approach social issues, such as the distribution of the hostel rooms or other similar issues.

Which is the ELSA philosophy?

• ELSA vision: "A just world in which there is respect for human dignity and cultural diversity!"

This is our final goal and concomitantly our reason to create an ideal situation where the real social values can prevail.

• ELSA targets: To contribute to the juridical education, to stimulate the mutual understanding and to promote social responsibility of law students and young lawyers.

• ELSA methods: Promoting opportunities offered to law students and young lawyers based on critic dialogue of scientific cooperation; the contribution to forming young lawyers with a wide intellectual opening and well developed professional aptitudes; encouraging law students and young lawyers to act in the name of society welfare.
